Lesson 7 – Interesting Facts About Oga Labiyi

Fondly referred to as Principal of Principals. Here are some interesting facts I bet you did not know about Chief Ayo Labiyi

  • Born on August 15, 1926
  • He was so brilliant that he got a triple promotion from Standard 4 (instead of Standard 6) to Ibadan Grammar School – 1941-1946 Class- set
  • He was the best student in Form 1, beating all those who had read Standard 6
  • He was a junior teacher at Ibadan Grammar School in 1948
  • He attended Fourah Bay College for higher education
  • He attended Trinity College, Dublin
  • He returned to IGS as a graduate teacher in 1954
  • He went on to be the Pioneer Principal at Lagelu Grammar School for 10 years – 1958-1968
  • He was appointed Principal after Oga Alayande in 1968 and he returned to his Alma Mater to become the Principal 1969 making him the first Alumnus to be appointed Principal of the school
  • He was conferred with the title of the Agbaakin Aare of Ibadanland in 1974
  • After several other lofty achievements, Oga Labiyi went home to be with the Lord on May 8th 2019 at the ripe age of 92.
